Alabama football quarterback Jalen Milroe wasn’t a Heisman Trophy finalist this season. That honor went to Oregon’s Bo Nix, Washington’s Michael Penix, LSU’s Jayden Daniels and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr.

But Milroe did receive votes. While the winner will be announced on Saturday, the complete top 10 was released on Friday.

The redshirt sophomore finished sixth in the Heisman race, behind Florida State’s Jordan Travis, who came in at No. 5. He landed ahead of Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon, who finished seventh, followed by Missouri’s Cody Schrader, Michigan’s Blake Corum and Wolverine quarterback JJ McCarthy.

Milroe’s candidacy for any sort of awards seemed dead in the water after Alabama’s Week 2 loss to Texas. He struggled throughout the game, throwing two interceptions, and didn’t play the next week at South Florida.

After neither Tyler Buchner nor Ty Simpson impressed as Alabama struggled to a win over the Bulls, Milroe took over the starting job for good against Ole Miss. As Alabama made it through SEC play undefeated, its quarterback improved considerably.

Milroe has provided the Crimson Tide with a consistent deep threat to speedy wide receivers like Jermaine Burton and Isaiah Bond. He’s also demonstrated the ability to escape pressure in the pocket and is a strong piece of Alabama’s rushing attack.

He was named the MVP of the Tide’s SEC championship game win over Georgia on Saturday. He and his Alabama teammates made the College Football Playoff with that performance, sliding in as the No. 4 seed.

Milroe and UA will be back in action on Jan. 1 in the CFP’s Rose Bowl semifinal game against Michigan.
